Manuscript Templates

Manuscripts accepted for publication are published as open-access articles, immediately free to read, download, and share.

Plagiarism Screening Policy

JBB does not allow any form of plagiarism. Following journal policy, submitted manuscripts are screened with plagiarism software by editors and reviewers to detect overlapping and similar text. The primary criteria for acceptance are scientific rigor and the potential to advance the field. Authors are strongly encouraged to read these instructions carefully before submission, and to check manuscripts for grammatical errors. All papers are subject to peer review.

Manuscript Submission

All papers must follow these guidelines; failure to do so may result in the manuscript being returned to the author, delaying publication. Manuscripts are submitted online. Beginning with the title page, all pages should be numbered sequentially in the upper right-hand corner.

ORCID

The submitting author is expected to supply an ORCID iD at submission, a process that takes about two minutes. More information is available at orcid.org.

Covering Letter

A submission template of a cover letter is available within the system.

Conflict of Interest

Between the Acknowledgements and References sections, all authors should state all relevant and prospective conflicts of interest. If any author is a current Editor or Editorial Board Member of JBB, this must be noted. All authors are asked to complete a conflict of interest declaration form during initial submission; the corresponding author is responsible for collecting completed forms from all co-authors.

Ethical Considerations

Authors must confirm that the study protocol was authorized by a properly formed institutional Ethics Committee and complies with the Declaration of Helsinki. Human subjects research must include a statement confirming informed consent was obtained, and patient privacy must be protected; photographs must be edited so subjects are not identifiable. Animal trials must be shown to be ethically appropriate and, where applicable, follow national criteria for animal use in research.

Parts of the Manuscript

Manuscript sections should appear in the following order: title page; abstract, abbreviations, and clinical trial registration number (at the end of the abstract); references; appendices (if any); figure legends; a list of Supporting Information (if any, noting the codec used for videos); tables (each complete with title and footnotes); and figures. Text footnotes are not permitted; such information should instead be included in the text as parenthetical material.

Word Count by Article Type

For the Original Article, the word count includes the title page, abstract, and figure legends. For all other categories, it includes the title page, abstract, references, and figure legends.
